“I have to say, you have been phenomenal with the groups that you’ve worked with. So much so, that we’ve secured funding for next year. I keep highly recommending you to everyone I know… just make sure you save slots for us.”
(Senior Deputy Head)
The young people will learn how and why their brains and bodies react when they are feeling unwanted emotions such as anxiety, anger and worry.
They will learn a range of techniques and strategies to help them to reduce and cope with their unwanted emotions and look for situations where they will be able to apply them.
Week 1 will include a short ‘pre’ questionnaire which will will help to identify common threads within each group, for example low self-esteem, anger and overwhelm. Additional resources will then be added to the programme to support these.
Subsequent sessions will review how they’ve found using the technique/s during the week between, recap previous sessions and then introduce new strategies/techniques to try.
Week 6 will include a short ‘post’ questionnaire to measure impact and an opportunity for the young people to reflect on what works best for them and steps to move forwards.
Students will receive a handbook containing all of the information covered in the sessions.
When asked on the post-programme questionnaire ‘Did you learn techniques to help you cope with unwanted emotions?’, all students chose the response: 'A Lot!’.
